Why Immortal AI exists

Immortal AI investigates how artificial intelligence is changing people, relationships and society, and asks who has the power, who bears the risk, who is responsible for the outcomes, and whether enough is being done to protect those most vulnerable.

We do not begin with the assumption that AI is inherently good or inherently harmful. We begin with evidence, the consequences for people and the decisions made by those with power.

Our public position is simple:

This Charter exists so readers, contributors, subjects, partners and future journalists can understand the standards against which our work should be judged.

Our core commitments

Evidence before narrative

We do not force facts into a preferred story. Material claims should be supported by identifiable evidence. Primary sources are preferred where available, and important claims should be independently checked where practical.

People before hype

We focus on what AI changes in real lives. We avoid sensationalism, promotional language and technical spectacle that obscures who benefits, who carries the burden and what choices were available.

Accountability over blame

We examine institutions, incentives, design choices, business models, governance and decisions. We do not blame people for being deceived, manipulated, excluded or harmed by systems deliberately built to influence behaviour or reduce friction.

Protection of vulnerable people

Children, distressed people, isolated people, older people and those with limited power deserve particular care. We consider whether publication could expose a person to further harm and whether practical prevention or support information should accompany the article.

Uncertainty remains visible

We distinguish established facts, estimates, claims and unknowns. We do not present confidence where the evidence does not support it.

Editorial standards

Accuracy and sourcing

We take reasonable steps to ensure factual material is accurate, not misleading and supported by appropriate sources. We identify sources wherever possible, respect copyright and do not knowingly publish fabricated, distorted or materially misleading information.

Fairness and right of response

Where our reporting makes serious adverse claims about an identifiable person or organisation, we will make a genuine and proportionate effort to seek a response before publication when circumstances allow. A refusal or failure to respond does not prevent publication, but it should be reported fairly.

Fact, estimate, claim and unknown

Investigations should distinguish between:

• FACT: supported by reliable evidence.
• ESTIMATE: a reasoned calculation or projection with stated assumptions.
• CLAIM: an assertion attributed to its source and not presented as established fact.
• UNKNOWN: information that cannot presently be verified or responsibly inferred.

Privacy, dignity and avoidance of harm

Public interest does not automatically override privacy, dignity or safety. We weigh the value of publication against foreseeable harm, particularly where children, intimate material, trauma, mental distress or exploitation are involved.

Conflicts and commercial influence

Editorial conclusions must not be controlled by advertisers, sponsors, affiliate relationships, technology providers, political interests or search-engine optimisation. Material conflicts of interest should be disclosed. Advertising and sponsored material, if introduced, must be clearly distinguishable from editorial work.

Corrections

Significant factual errors should be corrected promptly, transparently and in a way readers can see. We do not disguise substantive corrections as routine edits. Updated facts, new responses and material changes should be dated where appropriate.

Contributors and future journalists

Anyone contributing to Immortal AI will be expected to work consistently with this Charter. Contributors must disclose relevant conflicts, respect source confidentiality, avoid plagiarism, maintain accurate records and cooperate with reasonable fact-checking and correction processes.

This public Charter does not itself create employment, partnership, agency, payment, confidentiality, intellectual-property or publication rights. Those matters must be governed by a separate written contributor, employment, commissioning or licensing agreement before work is accepted.

Immortal AI retains the right to edit, decline, postpone, correct or withdraw material in accordance with applicable agreements, law, safety considerations and this Charter. Contributors should not promise publication, confidentiality or particular treatment to a source unless authorised to do so.

Independence and accountability

Immortal AI is currently a founder-led independent publication. It does not claim to have an external editorial board, ombudsman, public editor or institutional fact-checking department. As the publication grows, governance arrangements may develop, but they will not be represented as existing before they do.

Status and amendments

This Charter is a public statement of editorial principles and intended practice. It is not legal advice and does not replace applicable law or a separate contract. Immortal AI may amend the Charter as the publication grows, laws change or better standards emerge. Material changes will be dated and the current version will remain identified on this page.
